SSD vs HDD: Which should I have in my PC?
Your operating system (i.e. windows 10, Linux etc.) this is because the SSD provides greater upload and download speeds compared to a HDD which is limited to the how fast the internals can rotate. You can find HDD’s with a RPM of over 10,000 however these are not cost effective if wanting to store a large amount of data. SSD’s are starting to bridge the gap for larger storage however cost far more.
If you want to store movie, videos, non-complex games and software a HDD with a 7,200RPM would be the suitable solution as these can be found with plenty of storage (up to 8TB’s) for a cheaper price.
For quick load times, computer start-up, complex games, OS or the requirement of transferring data to RAM or the graphics card (not to and from the internet, that is something completely different) should be stored on the SSD due to the faster memory transfer.
If you require better performance M.2 drives are a better alternative as they can transfer data at gigabit speed rather then the SSD’s megabits at a much greater cost.
Summary:
HDD – Typically
128 MB per second read
120 MB per second write
SSD – Typically
550 MB per second read
520 MB per second write
M.2 – Typically ( or NVMe a modern generation of hard drive)
3400 MB per second read
2300 MB per second write
