How to Protect Files
Yes. It is safe to store your personal files.
If not, then what is the purpose of owning a PC?
Make sure you follow the below points as a security measure:
Password protects your account by using a Windows login password.
You can protect your drives using Bit Locker encryption in Windows itself.
Keep a separate account for your family and friends if you are going to share your PC with other users.
Make your account an Administrator and others as users as you will have more administration privileges including deciding which data other users can access.
If you are connected to the internet and are sharing a network connection, ensure that sharing of folders and files/network discovery option is turned off in Windows.
Do not allow unidentified USB drives to hook up to your PC.
Ensure that you install a decent antivirus program and scan every external storage device when connected to your PC first before directly opening the same and executing files/programs.
And finally if you are deciding to sell your PC, ensure that the drive is successfully wiped off before selling.
For greater security, it is advisable to remove the existing drive and install a new drive prior to selling your PC.
That will keep your data secure!
Go ahead!
